After School Program Mission

We are committed to harvesting, investing, developing

and educating a generation of youth in THIS community to be successful adults empowered to make a positive difference in any community. "We believe if they are treated like scholars, they will act like scholars."

Program objectives

 

Results for YOUTH

  • To provide equal opportunities to all participants regardless of race or socioeconomic status.

  • To provide educational programs that encourage participants to reach their fullest potential.

  • To encourage and reward excellence in academic and volunteer arenas with perpetual scholarship for both college and vocational schools.

  • To build self-confidence and esteem with scholar attitude through proper etiquette training.

  • To provide responsible citizens who make the 'right choices' and postiviley impact their community.

  • To have fun along the entire learning spectrum.

 

Goals

  • Enroll 25 young men and women.

  • Promote every enrollee on time with a minimum "C' average.

  • Establish an alumni pool who will give back to those still in the program.

  • Establish business partners/mentors who will commit to hiring at least one graduate of the program participants part-time throughout the year.

Specifications

 

Requirements

  • Enrolled in Public, Charter, Private High School in Forsyth County Winston-Salem.

  • Must be a 9th, 10th, 11th, or Senior student.

  • Has transportation to all events and weekly meetings

  • Two completed Recommendation forms

  • Flexible Schedule

  • Compassion for Outreach, Activism, and the Non-profit Industry.

  • Maintain a minimum "C" average.

 

Program Curriculum

The curriculum element of SURGE will encompass life application-based lessons
and aimed at social development, educational development and productive
citizenship.

    Dating
    Abstinence 

  • Financial Management

  • Career Choices

  • Effective Problem Solving

  • Substance Abuse Education & Prevention
    Smoking
    Drug Prevention
    Alcohol Prevention

 

Program Dates

  • School Year Program will kick off: September 2024 to Mid December of 2024

  • School Year Program End: May of 2025
